Family Medicine Residency Programs
Bismarck Center for Family Medicine
The UND Family Medicine Center is located in Bismarck, North Dakota and is administered by the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. The program is fully accredited and has graduated 112 physicians since 1979. The program is a three-year program and accepts five first year residents annually through the match system.
Located in the center of North Dakota, the Bismarck and Mandan community serves as the hub for a trade area that stretches 150,000 miles covering North Dakota, eastern Montana and northern South Dakota.
Our program is well accepted and respected by both hospitals in the community, Medcenter One and St. Alexius Medical Center, and enjoys the tremendous support of the local teaching faculty. Over 100 specialists participate in our program.
The Family Medicine Center is within easy walking distance of both medical centers, where meals are provided for the residents.
Minot Center for Family Medicine
The Family Medicine Residency in Minot began in 1975 as the first residency program in the state, administered by the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The program is affiliated with Trinity Medical Center which is a fully Joint Commission accredited regional hospital providing a wide range of services including cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, and an ACS certified Level II Trauma Center.
Our residency accepts six residents per year. We are a well respected provider in the community. Minot is a clean, safe, friendly community of 40,000. We train residents to practice in whatever setting they choose with particular emphasis on rural practice where other specialties may not be readily available.
The residency clinic moved into a new state of the art clinic in April 2005 where the physicians continue to provide the full range of family medicine services to a large and varied clinic population. Maternity care, endoscopy, cardiac treadmill testing, colposcopy, vasectomy, and a full range of office-based procedures are offered. Onsite lab and x-ray contribute to clinic efficiency and resident education.
The residency is fully wired and equipped with the latest in electronic equipment. The faculty consists of six family physicians and a full-time psychologist.
The residency provides an exciting, dynamic atmosphere for medical learners motivated to practice as competent, comprehensive family physicians.
