- Teratogen Information
Teratogen Service
The Division of Medical Genetics provides a statewide accessible teratogen service. This service is for women, pregnant or considering pregnancy, who have been exposed to chemicals. A woman may have inhaled, ingested, or handled/used chemicals in the household or workplace. These chemicals can be illegal, prescription or over-the-counter drugs, paint, household cleaning agents, materials used at work, alcohol, and others.
This exposure is a concern because some chemical exposures will affect the unborn child, as well as his or her growth and development. It is important to know how the child will be affected by the chemicals to which the mother is exposed.
If you are concerned about a woman's exposure to chemicals, please call this service in North Dakota.
We serve physicians, nurses and other health professionals caring for pregnant women. If you are concerned about a woman's exposure to chemicals, please call this free service in North Dakota. Please note: When we receive a phone call, we ask for information on the woman—whose name can remain anonymous—and the chemicals to which she has been exposed.
