NEWS FROM THE MEDICAL CURRICULUM COMMITTEE
Approved the pilot study for Block VIII of 2011.
Approved a new policy regarding 4th Year Electives:
The current policy states:
Only two electives in a specific specialty area will be approved. If you want to take a third elective in the same specialty area, it will only be approved if it is the seventh elective (e.g., only two electives in Emergency Medicine, Neurology, etc.)
The CEC proposed the following clarification, which was approved by the MCC:
“Specialty area” means a specialty into which students can match in the NRMP Main Match.
Approved a new policy on appeals of end-of-block exam questions:
Effective immediately, an aggregate total of five appeals will be allowed. This means that students who fail one exam can challenge five questions on the MCQ exam or five points on the case-based exam. If a student fails two exams (the MCQ and case-based exam), they may still only submit five appeals total for the two exams (questions on the MCQ or points on the case-based exam).
