M.D./Ph.D. Scholars Program

Grand Forks, ND

Message from the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions

Judy DemersThe University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences accepts applications from July 1 through November 1 of each year. Because we do not participate in AMCAS, application is made directly to the School, either electronically or by submission of our standard application.

After careful review of the many applications, selected candidates are invited for interview with three members of the Admissions Committee, a basic scientist, and the director of the M.D./Ph.D. program. If candidates also are exploring interest in the M.D./Ph.D. Program, arrangements can be made for them to meet with representatives of specific graduate programs (e.g., Biochemistry or Physiology or others) and/or to meet with members of the Combined Degree Steering Committee.

The Medical School's M.D./Ph.D. program offers exceptionally talented individuals the opportunity to undertake a physician scientist training program tailored to their specific interests. Our primary directive is to create future biomedical investigators by providing the highest quality of graduate medical training. I believe the close integration of clinical and basic science training mirrors the future careers of biomedical scientists and is a critical component of this educational pathway.

Usual completion time of the program is seven years. While a M.D./Ph.D. student, the Program offers a range of special services and opportunities to facilitate the completion of the dual degrees.

Sincerely,

Judy L. DeMers
