Offered: No Period 1 or 2 electives during AY2005-2006
Objectives of the Elective:
-
To familiarize the student with common pediatric and hand and writst
orthopaedic conditions (intoeing, flat feet, torsional deformities, trigger
finger, Dupytren's, etc.)

To understand spinal problems in children including scoliosis and kyphosis
-
To evaluate mental and physical handicaps in children (cerebral palsy,
spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, etc.)
-
To recognize common hand and wrist fracatures and dislocations
-
To recognize common pediatric fractures and participate in casting techniques
-
To observe and participate in surgery (optional)
Instructional Activities:

Rounds, surgery, clinics
-
Research and project topics can be arranged if desired
-
Presentations at musculoskeletal conferences
Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

Ability to understand and discuss the above simple conditions, including
apects of anatomy, pathology, etiology, and treatment

Ability to examine the upper and lower extremities and spine
-
Ability to present research topic if desired
Criteria for Grading:

Written evaluation to assistant dean of northeast campus and chairman,
department of surgery
