Objectives of the Elective:

  1. To expose the medical student to a variety of musculoskeletal pathologies.
  2. To learn to associate the history and physical examination with assessment and treatment, both nonoperative and operative..

Instructional Activities:

  1. Primarily preceptor based with one on one discussions of patient problems.
  2. Readings of basic anatomy associated with cases.
  3. Physical examination of patients when appropriate will be expected.

Standards of Performance (Outcomes) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

  1. Each student will be expected to do a series of case presentations with explanation of the essential elements of the history and physical examination and relevant radiographic findings.

Criteria for Grading:

  1. Attendance.
  2. Punctuality.
  3. Level of completeness in assessments of patients.
  4. Extra reading - texts and articles as provided by this service.
