Objectives of the Elective:

  1. Introduce the student to the radiologic subspecialty of Neuroradiology.
  2. Exposure to decision pathways and procedures.
  3. Acquaint the student with CT and MRI.
  4. Review of appropriate basic anatomy.
  5. Introduce the student to concept of radiation safety.

Instructional Activities:

  1. Direct continuous contact with the preceptor.
  2. Daily interpretive sessions in CT and MRI.
  3. Observation of and participation in neuroradiologic procedures. This would include all phases from receipt of the consult to post-procedural patient visit.
  4. Review of teaching case files.

Standards of Performance (Outcome) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

  1. Review of appropriate texts available in the department.
  2. Appropriate interaction with patients and preceptor.

Criteria for Grading:

  1. Satisfactory rating on all appropriate clinical competencies listed on the fourth-year student clinical performance evaluation.
  2. Level of interest and knowledge displayed by student.
