Objectives::

  1. Learn to evalulate pediatric health problems from a public health perspective.
  2. Learn to use epidemiologic methods to evaluate public health issues.
  3. Learn to design interventions on a community-wide basis.
  4. Learn to find and use public health data  from a variety of sources.
  5. Learn to work in a cross-cultural community.

Intructional Activities:

  1. Plan an epidemiologic investigation of a specific childhood public health issue with preceptor.
  2. Evaluate data; recommend an action plan based on conclusions.
  3. If time permits, carry out intervention.
  4. If time permits, evaluate effectiveness of intervention.

Standards of Performance (Outcome) Indicating Attainment of Objectives:

  1. Develop a written plan for epidemiologic investigation acceptable to preceptor.
  2. Collect adequate date to carry out #1.
  3. Develop written report indicating reasonable analysis of investigation.
  4. Time permitting, carry out intervention and evaluate effectiveness.

Criteria for Grading:

  1. Date gathering.
  2. Interaction.
  3. Problem solving.
  4. Psychosocial.
  5. Evaluate Standards of Performance above.
