Objectives: Following successful completion of
this elective, the student will be able to:

Perform improved interviewing skills and MSE.

Demonstrate an ncreased knowledge of pharmacotherapy.

Manage an increase in case load.
-
Demonstrate a deeper understanding of comorbidity and psyschodynamics.
Instructional Activities: During this elective, the student will
be involved in/experience:

Presenting of rounds as inservice for unit..
-
Responsibility for specific case loads.
-
Observed interviewing of new cases in Board format.
-
Interactive journal club weekly X1 hour with psychiatry resident.

Time for special interest pursuits will be arranged.
Criteria for Grading: During and following this elective,
the preceptor will:

Daily monitor the student's attendance on the unit..
-
Evaluate by direct observation the student on performance of interviews,
presentations, and MSE (mental status exam).
-
Grade by direct observation the student's rounds of content, presentation, and
fielding of questions.
-
Evaluate by direct observation the student's knowledge of pharmacotherapy.
-
Observe the student's ability to work as a team member.
-
Closely monitor all aspects of the objectives.
