The Division of Medical Genetics also provides a state-wide accessible Teratogen service. This is for women, pregnant or considering pregnancy, who have been exposed to chemicals. A woman may have inhaled, ingested, or handled/used household chemicals or those in the workplace. These chemicals can be: illegal, prescription or over-the-counter drugs, paint, household cleaning agents, materials used at work, alcohol - and others - while they are pregnant. The reason this is a concern is because some chemical exposures will affect the unborn child, their growth and development. It is important to know how the child will be affected by the chemicals to which the mother is exposed. If you, too, are concerned about a woman's exposure to chemicals, please call this free service in North Dakota. FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions pertaining to Teratogen Services)
PLEASE NOTE.....When we receive a phone call, we ask for information on the woman - whose name can remain anonymous - and the chemicals to which she has been exposed. We serve physicians, nurses, and other health professionals caring for pregnant women. For contact information on the North Dakota Teratogen Information service, follow the link below.
