Establish collaborative partnerships with other agencies to enhance the availability and quality of genetic services
- Continue collaborations with the Department of Health, Department of Human Services, Maternal and Child Health, Child Health Specialty Clinics and other primary care and specialty services and non-profit organizations supporting individuals and families who have a genetic disorder
- Continue the integrated laboratory referral system for diagnostic and screening tests by setting up associations with outside laboratories and providing this information to local clinics
- Continue to promote and expand program linkages with Family Voices, Family to Family, Early Intervention Services, Tracking Systems and Children's Special Health Services (CSHS) for families with children with special health care needs
- Establish relationships, or a genetic component, with public health programs that are not currently involved in genetics, such as chronic disease, environmental, nutrition, or preconception.
- Increase interactions with the state epidemiologist to strengthen infrastructure and capacity for data analysis, as well as research
- Continue to develop a statewide surveillance system by integrating and enhancing the existing surveillance system to include data from newborn screening, CSHS, genetics, lead screening, and newborn hearing screening
- Increase collaborative partnerships with state and local agencies and institutions to facilitate successful grant applications
- Participate more actively in the MCH five-year Needs Assessment to include assessment of genetic services available in the State and thereby provide more visibility of genetics in the MCH Block Grant
- Maintain genetic liaison nurse in the Maternal & Child Health Department to be contact person for the Division of Medical Genetics
Maintain North Dakota Genetics Advisory Committee
- Expand membership to include major stakeholders in the State that are involved in genetic services
- Maintain a diverse and active advisory group involved in strategic planning and evaluation of genetic services
- Establish a system to monitor and evaluate program performance
