The Division of Medical Genetics contributes to this service by:
- Providing a variety of genetic/ birth defects lectures to Medical Students and Allied Health Disciplines at the University of North Dakota;
- Teaching clinical genetic/birth defects topics as requested by the North Dakota University System across the State, including graduate and undergraduate programs;
- Teaching genetics in the elementary, junior high, and senior high schools as requested;
- Providing genetic education to professionals and the community at large through guest speaking at conferences, sponsoring seminars, community agency presentations, as well as media interviews;
- Creating, producing, and evaluating educational materials and/or programs for professionals, clients, and general population;
- Developing and participating in strategies to improve the basic genetic knowledge of professionals and the public by displays at conferences, distributing brochures/information, and articles in established newsletters;
- Creating and sharing an extensive library of information, resources for genetic support services, websites, and bibliographies, both technical and family friendly, on genetic disorders, birth defects, and related topics as requested.
- Expanding and maintaining the Division of Medical Genetics website which includes, information about the statewide clinical genetics program as well as genetic referral and appointment information. There are also links to a variety of resources for professionals and families regarding: genetics, health in general, collaborative organizations, support information, educational information and culturally appropriate resources.
