to work with the medicine.nodak.edu e-mail system.

up an account to work with your medicine.nodak.edu address.
Start by selecting Tools/Accounts... from the menu.
If you haven't already setup an account, click Add/Mail...
If you have an account, skip ahead to Adjusting the Settings of the
Account

Adjusting the settings of the Account
The account that's setup by the OutlookExpress wizard
isn't quite right for the med school's server, you'll have
to
make
a few
adjustments. Highlight your account and hit the Properties button.
In the General tab, the default name of the account is
probaby cyrus.undsmhs.net,
you'll probably want to change it to something more descriptive,
like your e-mail address.
In the Servers tab, you must check My server requires
authentication.

In the Advanced tab, you'll need to check
both boxes for
This server requires a secure connection (SSL)
IMPORTANT! after
checking the box for SMTP, you'll should change
the port from the default of 25 to 465. If you don't do
this, it'll sort of work, but have odd problems from time
to time.
The screenshot below shows an IMAP setup, which should
show the incoming mail port ast being 993. If you're doing
POP3, the port number should be 995

If you're doing IMAP, there's an IMAP tab in which
you may want to change the name for the Sent Items
path to
just Sent,
which matches how the web-based e-mail works.
At this point you should be finished with the account
properties, click OK

Close the Internet Accounts window.

IMAP ONLY: If this is the first time you've used this
account, you may be asked if you want to download folders
- go ahead
and do it.

All finished, you should see your account in the Folders area of the Outlook Express window, click on the Inbox to read your incoming mail.
