CME Purpose
The mission of the Office of Continuing Medical Education and Outreach (OCMEO) at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences (UNDSMHS) is to foster and support continuing professional development of health care professionals within the state of North Dakota and the High Plains region.
Content Areas
The content areas sponsored by the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences OCMEO include primary care, specialty and sub-specialty topics, and content for health care professionals.The scope of activities involves the body of knowledge and skills generally recognized and accepted by the profession as within the basic medical sciences, the discipline of clinical medicine, and the provision of health care to the public.The OCMEO will ensure the quality of education programs by adhering to the guidelines and standards established by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).
Target Audience
The target audience of the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences OCMEO includes faculty, residents, community physicians and health care professionals within the state, region, and nation.
Type of Activities
The University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences OCMEO sponsors conferences, workshops, seminars, review courses, symposia, lecture series, grand rounds and distance education by telephone, television, personal computer and other innovative formats. The OCMEO also approves enduring materials and other types of self-directed learning activities of high quality that are planned and implemented in compliance with OCMEO program policies and procedures.
Expected Program Results
As a result of these educational activities, the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences OCMEO fosters the continuing professional development of health care providers. The offerings are intended to enhance physician and other health professionals' training and influence their behavior for the purpose of improving health outcomes. The Office of Continuing Medical Education and Outreach is committed to assessing the impact of the CME program and health professionals' continuing education experiences through qualitative and quantitative methods.
