CHECK LIST FOR SOPHOMORE MEDICAL STUDENTS
ORIENTATION DAYS
- Thursday, June 30 and Friday, July 1, 2011 - 8:00 a.m. at UND School of Medicine located in the parking ramp at sixth and Broadway, yellow level, 515 1/2 East Broadway, Suite 106
- Departmental orientations will be Tuesday, July 5, 2010
- Students will receive mailings from both administrative office and departments regarding specifics of orientation in June.

SOUTHWEST CAMPUS OFFICE
- Located in the parking ramp, sixth and Broadway, yellow level (first floor), above the UND Center for Family Medicine
- Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and we are open during the noon hour. Lonna is in the office until 6 or 6:30 p.m.
- We are here to assist students in counseling and advisement regarding:
- policies and procedures on the Bismarck Campus
- policies with the hospitals
- peer conflicts
- preceptor conflicts
- expectations for clerkships
- career advisement
- fourth year elective selections
- personal problems
HOUSING
IMMUNIZATIONS
- Please have all your immunizations up to date and turned in to Jude Heit in Student Affairs. Our hospitals will not allow you to begin your clerkships without this information.
NAME BADGES
- The SW Campus has photo name badges made up that you will use for the next two years. If you lose it, you will have to replace it at your own cost.
DRESS CODE
- Clean, neat, short white coat and name badge are mandatory
- Males: Shirt, tucked in, slacks, shoes, and socks (ties should be worn more often than not)
- Females: Dress, blouse with skirt and or dress slacks, shoes, and stockings
- Good hygiene and cleanliness are a must
- Variations on specifics of dress code may be dependent on the hospital, clinic, or preceptor
MEALS
- The hospitals provide students with a discount employee rate. St. Alexius Medical Center uses DEBITEK cards that our office will issue to you at orientation. These cards are used when going through the cafeteria line or in the vending machines when the cafeteria is closed. A $20.00 (cash) deposit is required.
COMPUTERS, MAILBOXES, LOCKERS, AND PARKING
- There is a student lounge in the Campus office which has a mailbox for each student. There are four computers, a scanner and a printer for your use.
- There are student lounges at both hospitals that have lockers in them that you may use. There aren't enough available for each student so you will have to share. Each student lounge has two computers and a printer for your use.
- Parking is at a premium. There is parking for students in the employee parking lots of St. Alexius Medical Center. This parking area is located southeast of the hospital.
HOLIDAYS
- Work as directed by your attending physician
ABSENCES
- All absences must be excused
- Illness or emergency leave - contact your preceptor immediately, as well as the department secretary
- Planned absences - you must receive permission from the Associate Dean's office and obtain an absentee form
CONFIDENTIALITY
- The patient/physician relationship has been established and is based on utmost confidence. Information regarding patients is to be kept confidential at all times.
PROFESSIONALISM
- On the Southwest Campus, patients and preceptors will regard you as a professional. This means respect for patients and colleagues, confidentiality, common courtesy, and a sense of duty.
